I did the Ottoman Heritage walking tour of Athens with Eureka Athens, after having done the classical Greek tour of Athens, as I wanted to delve deeper into hidden history of the city.
Not much attention is given or mentioned in the mainstream tours about the 400 years of Ottoman rule in Greece. We are talking here 200 more years than British rule in India and nearly 300 years more than the French rule in Algeria. So if this is something of interest you then I highly recommend this tour.
My tour guide was brilliant; she was warm and friendly and gave a fascinating tour of Ottoman heritage of Athens. She pointed out the former Islamic school behind the roman agora and Tzistarakis Mosque which is now a ceramics museum. It was very insightful and at the end of the tour she took me to a lovely café in the Psyrri district where I tried some Greek coffee and delicious cake.
