The best beaches close to Athens!

When we are thinking about Athens the first thing that comes in mind is the view of Acropolis, the remnants of the ancient glory and a delicious Greek salad. But Athens is close to some beautiful beaches and if your visit is taking place through summertime you should spend sometime near the crystal clear water that surrounds Attica region. We present you the most beautiful beaches that locals love to go at weekends or even even after work!

SOUNIO

Sounio is famous for the Temple of Poseidon but also for some of the clearest waters along the Athenian Riviera! Its a long coast line and there are many beaches where you can have great time. We recommend the beach in front of the Aegeon Beach Hotel where you have the choice of making use of the hotel facilities on the beach  with a reasonable charge or you can visit the public beach right next to the hotel.

How to get there

Aegeon Beach hotel is 60 klm outside of Athens in the prefecture of Sounio and it will take you about 1 hour and a half by car. You can also go there by public buses that depart regularly from athens every 2 hours, just inform the driver about your destination in order to make sure that the bus stops nearby.

LAGONISI RESORT

This exclusive resort gives you access  to a beautiful sandy beach with all the amenities you would expect from a resort of this class.  You can have a drink or lunch by the sea while you enjoy your sunbathing as your eyes gaze at the endless blue of the sea. The entrance for an adult costs 8 euros during weekdays and 17 euros during weekends and bank holidays.  It is open to public from 9:00 to 20:00.

General Entrance Fee per person: €8 on weekdays, €17 on weekends. Check the webpage for special fees.

How to get there

Lagonisi Resort is about 40klm  away from Athens and it takes about 45 mins to reach it by car. On your way to your destination you’ll have the chance to enjoy the views of the Athenian Riviera. You can also go there by public buses that depart regularly from athens every 2 hours

VARKIZA RESORT (YABANAKI)

In this beach you can have plenty of activity such as watersports, beach volley, fitness activities or watch live music performance. This resort is famous among young people and tourists who want to have a day full of activities by the sea. The entrance costs 5 euros during weekdays and gives you access to the beach along with a sunbed and umbrella, during weekends the entrance price is 5 euros and if you want a sunbed and umbrella it will cost you 6 euros.

General Entrance Fee per person: €5 on weekdays (including sunbed), €5 on weekends plus €6 if you want a sunbed. Check the webpage for special fees.

Address: Varkiza coast

How to get there

Varkiza Resort is about 25klm outside athens which means about  40 mins by car. You can also reach the resort by taking the metro blue line with direction Eliniko and getting off at the terminal station Eliniko, getting on the bus 171 or 122 with direction Varkiza or Saronida respectively.

Voula Beach (South Coast)

In voula beach you’ll find the South Coast Beach resort which is a place where you can enjoy the sea and have fun with a many activities such as watersports,  beach volley and for those who don’t want to swim in the sea there is a big swimming pool!

General Entrance Fee: €4 on weekdays, €5 on weekends, €2,5 euros for sunbed.
Opening Times: 8AM to 7PM
Address: 21 konstantinou karamanli avenue.

How to get there

Voula Beach (South Coast) is at 21 konstantinou karamanli avenue which  about is about 20 klm outside Athens or 25 mins by car. You can also reach it by tram getting of asklipio voulas station or you can take buses A1,A2 from city center with direction Voula.

 

Eureka Tip:

#1.You can enjoy some part of the Athenian Riviera by getting on the tram on Syntagma square and getting of at Voula terminal station for as low as 1.40 euro one way!!

#2. During weekends most beaches get crowded with locals and tourist so we advice you to get there early enough so you get a good spot and enjoy your time in any beach you’ve chosen to visit!
